Beginning Monday, July 22, the students on the 2013-14 staff of Hillcrest High School’s “HTV Magazine” will travel from Springfield, MO to Colorado for a ten-day “Rocky Mountain Road Trip.”  They will shoot and upload stories, short clips, photos and blogs each step of the way.

Adviser Dave Davis has led his staff on two such “mobile journalism” experiences before.  The first was in 2009 to the east coast and back.  The second one, billed as the “Southern Swing,” took place in 2011 as the Hillcrest group visited cities in the South.

The 17 students, four field producers (former HTVers), and five chaperones will board a motor coach at 6:30 a.m. on the 22nd, and each day, Davis will post short blogs here about lessons learned along the way.  So follow their stories at htvbuzz.com, and check out this ASB blog for a veteran teacher’s reflections.

Dave Davis

Dave Davis started a Broadcast Journalism class at Hillcrest High School in the fall of 1989. Since then, the school's student-produced show, "HTV Magazine," has become one of the nation's most-honored high school broadcasts.

In an effort to provide valuable, useful, hands-on instruction to broadcast teachers from across the nation, Davis founded ASB Workshop in the summer of 2000. Since then, the week-long workshop has provided training for hundreds of high school and middle school teachers from 47 states, plus Mexico, England, South Korea, and Japan.

In the spring of 2009 he was named the Springfield (MO) Public Schools Teacher of the Year. He lives in Springfield with wife Martha, and has two daughters who live and work in the area.
